Our aim is to develop a method for approximating a differentiable function using polynomials.

 

We can approximate son, cosh, log, exp, etc by polynomials

 

The higher the degree , the better the approximation, provided we use good values for , , ,

 

Polynomials are easy to manipulate - their derivatives and integrals are also polynomials.

Polynomials are easy to evaluate - a finite number of additions and multiplications

Polynomial approximations are used to evaluate functions in computer software and calculators
