A voltage follower is an op amp circuit whose output is the same as the input (gain = 1)

Voltage followers have a very high input resistance (impedance) and is useful to isolate one circuit from another.

 

The second circuit would not draw current from the first stage, instead the op amp provides current and power while maintaining the same voltage as , removing the loading effect from the first-stage circuit.
